In many ministries today it seems like our measuring rod is the numbers. You know what i’m talking about. When you ask a pastor how his church is doing he says something along the lines of: ”Well, we’re doing pretty good. We’ve got about x number of people.”
The challenge of a next generation leader is to erase in their own mind of the lie that numbers = success. Yes, in church world numbers do = lives, and we’ll always celebrate when God blesses with people. However, the greater responsibility of a leader is to have spiritual influence.
When we talk to parents about family ministry, we don’t say have more kids then you will be successful. We say gain spiritual influence in your child’s life. Then you will be successful. We should do the same with leaders at a churchwide level.
Gain spiritual influence or to echo the words of the Bible.
Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
